Germanwings was established in 1997 as a division of Eurowings. Both airlines are owned by Lufthansa, Germany's flagship carrier. Eurowings customers can sign up for the Miles & More frequent flyer loyalty program to collect miles, based on the fare they have booked, and redeem them for their next flights.
Since 2015, Germanwings has been operating under the Eurowings brand, which now reaches over 210 destinations in Europe and some tourist destinations around the world. The Eurowings network includes countries, such as: the U.S.A., Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Mexico, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, the United Kingdom.
The carrier is especially known for its blind bookings, offering travellers cheap flights to unknown destinations. All they need to do is select their departure airport and travel category, like: sun and beach, shopping, party, culture, metropolis, nature, trekking and hiking or gay-friendly.
Baggage can be added when making a booking or later on Eurowings website, using the application, through the call centre or at the airport. However, it is always cheaper to do it online to avoid unnecessary fees. All passengers can bring one piece of hand baggage of up to 8kg, no larger than 55 x 40 x 23 cm as well as a smaller bag measuring up to 40 x 30 x 10 cm. With BEST / BIZ class customers are entitled to two pieces of hand baggage. Registered baggage may weigh up to 23kg or 32kg, depending on the fare, and may not exceed 157 centimeters (length + width + height). Business class customers can additionally register another 32kg bag.
Germanwings fleet comprises 33 aircraft: 24 Airbus A319-100s which can accommodate up to 150 passengers and 9 Airbus A320-200s with 180 seats.
