Florence
Florence, the capital of Tuscany, is located in central Italy on the Arno River, at the foot of the Apennines. The city, which was the capital of Italy from 1865 to 1871, is now home to about 362,000 residents. Renowned for its Renaissance architecture, its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Don't miss the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Uffizi Gallery, and the Ponte Vecchio. The climate is a temperate Mediterranean; the best months to visit are spring and autumn, when temperatures are mild.
