Trondheim
Trondheim, set on the Trondheimsfjord at the mouth of the River Nidelva, is a Norwegian city with a rich history. Founded in 996 by Olaf Tryggvason, it served as the capital of Viking Norway until 1217. Today it is an important industrial centre and port. Known for Nidaros Cathedral and for winter sports, it offers cross-country trails and ski jumps. It has 212,660 inhabitants. The best time to visit is the summer months, when the days are longest and temperatures are mild.
