Germanwings was established in 1997 as a division of Eurowings. Both airlines are owned by Lufthansa, Germany's flagship carrier. Eurowings customers can sign up for the Miles & More frequent flyer loyalty program to collect miles, based on the fare they have booked, and redeem them for their next flights.

Since 2015, Germanwings had been operating under the Eurowings brand, which now reaches over 210 destinations in Europe and some tourist destinations around the world. The carrier was especially known for its blind bookings, offering travelers cheap flights to unknown destinations. All they needed to do was select their departure airport and travel category, such as: sun and beach, shopping, party, culture, metropolis, nature, trekking/hiking or gay-friendly.

Germanwings luggage size and weight

Baggage could be added when making a booking or later on the Eurowings website, using the application, through the call centre or at the airport. However, it was always cheaper to do it online to avoid unnecessary fees. All passengers could bring one piece of hand baggage of up to 8kg, no larger than 55 x 40 x 23 cm as well as a smaller bag measuring up to 40 x 30 x 10 cm. With BEST / BIZ class customers were entitled to two pieces of hand baggage. Registered baggage could weigh up to 23kg or 32kg, depending on the fare, and could not exceed 157 centimeters (length + width + height). Business class customers could additionally register another 32kg bag.
