Get to know more about Ryanair

Ryanair

Ryanair is a Dublin-based budget airline founded in 1984. It initially run only the route from Waterford to London Gatwick. Two years later it added another one between Dublin and Luton. Now it is the world’s fourth largest airline with over 13,000 people working for the company. Ryanair's largest competitor is EasyJet. As part of its cost-cutting strategy, the carrier prefers to use smaller or secondary airports to pay lower landing fees. The carrier offers customer help 24/7 via social media, chat and phone as well as the possibility to check on the latest flight status on its website.

Hand baggage

Ryanair’s cabin baggage policy allows all passengers to bring only one small personal bag on board. it must fit under the seat in front of the passenger and meet the 40cm x 20cm x 25cm requirements. If one bag is not enough, a second one can be taken, but a fee of €25 will apply. With priority & 2 bags which starts at €6, travelers can use the priority queue and bring another bag of up to 10kg and no bigger than 55cm x 40cm x 20cm on board to be placed in the overhead locker. The same cabin baggage allowance applies to Plus / Flexi / Family ticket holders as well.

Registered baggage

Regular customers who do not decide to pay for priority boarding must pay €8 for a second 10kg bag while making a booking. It will be checked into the hold and then collected at the baggage carousel at the arrival airport. If 10kg is not enough, there is a possibility to buy up to 3 checked bags of 20kg. It is suggested that the purchase is made when making the initial booking to avoid higher rates, which also apply via the call centre, at the airport, during peak periods and on selected routes. The difference for a checked bag is as much as €15. Registered baggage is non-refundable and is charged per person, per one way flight.

Online check-in

To avoid charges connected with checking in at the airport, it is better to do it online free of charge on the website or using the Ryanair mobile application from 48 hours (60 days for the reserved seats) to 2 hours before the scheduled departure time. Airport check-in costs €55 per passenger. For a lost boarding pass a reissue fee of €20 per passenger will apply. Free check-in at the airport is for Flexi Plus customers only. In order to check-in online, passengers need to log into myRyanair account and complete ID information. They can also choose extras right away. Having completed all of these steps, the boarding card must be printed off.

Ryanair travel classes

Ryanair offers only an economy class product. As a no-frills airline, it collects charges for any additional services. There are three types of tickets passengers can choose from Plus, Flexi Plus, and Family Plus. However, they may also use the standard tariff and purchase the extras they might find necessary. The Plus tariff includes discounted extras such as priority and two cabin bags, reserved standard seat and a 20kg check-in bag as well. With the Family Plus fare parents can have peace of mind that they are seated together with their children for free with discounted standard seats. In addition to two cabin bags, they can check in two 20kg items of baggage and they will be first to board the airplane. Flexi Plus ticket holders can avail of security fast track, check in at the airport for free at the dedicated desk, avoiding queues, and can change flight details such as departure time, destination or even departure airport for free. They can bring two pieces of baggage on board – one small bag and a cabin bag of 10kg.

Fleet

Currently Ryanair operates a fleet of Boeing-only aircraft. It comprises over 450 Boeing 737-800 series planes. However, this number is to grow significantly thanks to the order of up to 210 new Boeing 737-MAX planes. The new aircraft will reduce noise by up to 40% per seat, and fuel consumption by up to 16%. The carrier is highly committed to IATA’s 2050 target to reduce aviation sector emissions by 50% against 2005 levels. The interior of Ryanair’s planes features high-density seating layout and lightweight seats. It has a high load factor to carry as many passengers as possible during one flight in order to save fuel. The fleet has been retrofitted with quieter engines and winglets which reduce drag. One Boeing 737-700 is used by the airline as a charter aircraft and, if necessary, for pilot training. The company also owns three Learjet 45s mainly used to transport maintenance personnel and spare parts.
